Whitebaiters across the country are gearing up for the season, which starts on 15 August (for most Kiwis; if you are in the West Coast, the seasons starts from 1 September). In this issue, we have Cameron Officer, who set out on his first trip last year, and as luck would have it, had New Zealand rugby legend Stephen Donald as his guide. He recounts his experience in our cover story.

The clash over the Himalayan tahr has been going on for a while and recently led to a protest at Lake Pukaki, which saw more than 1000 people turn up. With so much reported in the news and social media, we decided to speak to both NZ Tahr Foundation and DOC to gain insight into the issue.
